Coronary artery disease occurs when one or more of the blood vessels (coronary arteries) that supply oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the heart muscle become narrow or blocked. Narrowing and blockage of the arteries is caused by a build-up of fat, calcium & cholesterol (plaque) on the walls of the arteries.
